Mike McCarthy has a ton of confidence that his Dallas Cowboys will do work against Washington.
It’s one of the biggest rivalries in the NFL: the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Washington Football Team. They face each other for Weeks 14 and 16 in 2021, which is important because it leaves the door open for 6-6 Washington to steal the division from the 8-4 Cowboys.
“We’re going to win this game. I’m confident in that,” McCarthy said Thursday, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
When asked about McCarthy’s declaration on Thursday night, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera had a pretty strong response.
“You do that for a couple of reasons, 1. You want to get in our head. Secondly, he’s trying to convince his team. … He’s now made it about him…I think it’s a big mistake.”

McCarthy explained that him claiming the Cowboys are going to beat Washington has everything to do with confidence in his players.
“What am I supposed to say?” McCarthy said after being asked whether he was providing Washington with bulletin board material. “I fully expect to win every game I’ve ever competed in. … They’re working hard, we’re working hard. But we’re clearly planning on going to Washington and winning the game. There’s no doubt about that.”
McCarthy is 0-2 against Washington since taking the Dallas job.
