NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract extension is still not done but it is widely expected to be done quite soon.
According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the expectation continues to be that it will be done.
“That’s going to get done,” an unnamed source told Maske. “Roger wants to be there until the spring of 2027.”
“You just know it’s going to get done, and you don’t worry about it,” another unnamed source told Maske. “Do the owners still want him? The answer is yes. Does Roger still want to be there? The answer is yes. It’s no problem.”
Once he does sign that extension, it is expected to be for three years and would push him to $700 MILLION in career earnings.
The New York Times’ Ken Belson reported in 2021 that Goodell’s average earnings for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years were $63.9 million.

When it comes to his next deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in March it was expected to be “the most lucrative deal ever given to any commissioner in any sport.”
Goodell isn’t going anywhere as long as he wants to stick around, it’s hard to see why NFL owners would push for a change at commissioner.
Under Goodell’s watch, the NFL is continuing in its attempts to expand its reach globally by having multiple games in London every season, and now with flag football being approved as an Olympic sport in time for the 2028 Summer Games.
