Indianapolis Colts safety Rodney Thomas II didn’t just go to high school with Damar Hamlin at Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They also played football together and remain close friends to this day.
In fact, Thomas even missed a few days of Colts practices this week so that he could visit Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
So when Thomas recorded an interception today during his team’s game against the Houston Texans, you knew he would find a way to honor his buddy, Damar. And that’s exactly what he did, as the rookie seventh-round pick made his way to the 30-yard-line (where the number “3” was outlined in red in honor of Hamlin), and shared an emotional moment with his defensive teammates.
Hamlin is obviously watching his Bills today as they take on the Patriots with second place in the AFC on the line, but you can bet he’ll see this awesome tribute from his high school friend at some point today.
Hopefully it helps lifts his spirits even more as he continues his recovery after suffering cardiac arrest not once, but twice on Monday night.
