Earlier this week, it was announced that Joe Flacco would start for the New York Jets in week 11 against the Miami Dolphins. Jets head coach Robert Saleh opted to go with the 36-year-old veteran over Mike White and Zach Wilson, with the latter still tending to a knee injury.
On Friday, Saleh was asked about Wilson’s progress after sustaining a knee sprain during the Jets’ week 7 loss to the Patriots. And his answer seemed to garner quite a bit of attention, as he suggested that the rookie quarterback’s knee was “structurally okay,” but the same could not be said for his confidence.
Many on Twitter took this statement as a troubling sign regarding Wilson’s progress in his first NFL season:

Not everyone was so skeptical, however. Many on Twitter were quick to remind us that knee sprains are not always easy to rush back from and Rich Cimini’s tweet could be seen as a little misleading:
The good news is Wilson appears to be coming along. And with the Jets offensive line as bad as it is, there’s no sense in rushing him back, just to see him get re-injured.
Get ready for at least one weekend of Joe Flacco, Jets fans!
