New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh had a brief message for opposing number Sean Payton after his team beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
The game ended up being a personal one as Jets players had some strong words for Payton prior to kickoff as the Broncos HC had criticized Nathaniel Hackett after taking over. Hackett, now the offensive coordinator for the Jets, was among those mentioned when Payton delivered an explanation for Russell Wilson’s failures earlier this year.
“There’s so much dirt around (Russell Wilson’s performance). There’s 20 dirty hands, for what was allowed, tolerated in the fricking training rooms, the meeting rooms,” Payton was quoted as saying. “The offense. I don’t know Hackett. A lot of people had dirt on their hands.
“It wasn’t just Russell. He didn’t just flip. He still has it. This B.S. that he hit a wall? Shoot, they couldn’t get a play in. They were 29th in the league in pre-snap penalties on both sides of the ball.”
Wilson hasn’t been great this season either and coughed up the ball on a crucial fumble during the game, something Hacket must have loved to see.
Following the 31-21 result, Saleh and Payton shook hands and the Jets coach was seen mouthing the words, “Stay humble.”

Hackett will enjoy the bragging rights for now. His offense was able to overcome Denver even without Aaron Rodgers leading things from the back.
As for Payton, he’d do well to heed the advice.
