New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh doesn’t think the turf at the MetLife Stadium had anything to do with the injury Aaron Rodgers suffered on Monday night.
The veteran quarterback is done for the season after tearing his left Achilles just four snaps into his NY debut, which came against the Buffalo Bills.
Players and fans alike have been pointing fingers at the artificial surface at the Jets’ ground in the wake of the season-ending injury. However, Saleh has suggested that it isn’t to blame as the problem resulted from a sack.
“No. If it was a non-contact injury, I think that’d be something to discuss obviously,” he said, via ProFootballTalk. “But I think that was trauma-induced. I do know the players prefer grass and there’s a lot invested in those young men.”
Rodgers’s former teammate, Green Bay Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari, was one of the first players to criticize the NFL in the wake of the disheartening incident.
“Congrats @nfl. How many more players have to get hurt on ARTIFICIAL TURF??! You care more about soccer players than us,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Jets will be moving forward with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback. They will also look to sign a veteran as his backup in the coming days.
