Robert Kraft is helping University of Virginia football players travel to the funerals of three of their teammates who were murdered in a shooting earlier this month.
Earlier this month, former UVA football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. allegedly shot and killed 22-year-old D’Sean Perry, a linebacker and defensive end; Devin Chandler, a junior wide receiver on the team; and Lavel Davis Jr., a junior wide receiver. Jones Jr. shot the players after their bus returned to campus after traveling to D.C. to see a play, according to investigators.
To make things a little easier for the team, owner Robert Kraft paid for the flights of the UVA football team after a team plane was spotted at the Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport on Friday. ESPN reporter Field Yates said the Patriots sent their team plane to Charlottesville “to help players get to the three funerals of their fallen teammates held in three different states.”
Perry’s funeral happened Saturday in Florida, while Chandler’s funeral occurred in Virginia Beach. Davis Jr.’s memorial is scheduled for Wednesday in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Last week, the university announced that it had canceled the final game of the season scheduled for Saturday against Virginia Tech.
“The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that the Virginia at Virginia Tech football game scheduled for Saturday, November 26, has been canceled,” the University of Virginia said in a statement. “The decision was made following communication between the Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia and Virginia Tech athletic department administration.”

“The ACC and Virginia Tech continue to support UVA following the devastating tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of three members of the Cavalier football team – Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry, and injuries to students Mike Hollins (also a Virginia football student-athlete) and Marlee Morgan.”
As for Jones Jr., he faces three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony.
His next court date is scheduled for December.
