New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has reportedly held talks about moving on from head coach Bill Belichick amid his team’s disastrous start to the season.
The Pats are 1-5 in their first six games and their prospects of improving don’t look bright.
Belichick, who is both the team’s coach and general manager, is under lots of pressure right now as he’s being blamed for the struggles in New England, and rightfully so as his coaching doesn’t seem up to standard while he has made some terrible drafting and personnel decisions over the last several years.
Things have been pretty bleak since Tom Brady’s departure in 2020, and Bill is now just eight losses away from tying Jeff Fisher and Dan Reeves’ NFL record for the most career losses at 165. It also appears he will do that before he surpasses Don Shula as the winningest coach.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently reported that Kraft has already held talks about relieving Belichick of his duties.
Breer was a guest on ‘The Herd’ when he made the revelation, with host Colin Cowherd asking, “Do you believe there are discussions in New England about moving on from Bill at the end of the season?”

“These discussions have taken place, and I can tell you for sure, Robert hears the criticism,” Breer replied. “He hears the anger locally, and people in the building know for a fact that he’s hearing the anger from the fan base. He’s very cognizant of where his team is in the pecking order of NFL teams, as well. They’re not a marquee team, and he took a lot of pride in them being a marquee team for two decades.”
“I think now we’re at the point where.. is this just going to be a flat-out firing,” he added.
There was some debate over who was responsible for the Patriots’ sustained success after Brady left three years ago but they’ve been put to rest now, with the former quarterback having won another Super Bowl away from the team while Belichick has been average without him.
If Bill fails to turn things around soon, he might also be without a job.
