All Antonio Brown had to do was not contact a second accuser and he would still be on the New England Patriots right now.
That much was reported by the Athletic on Friday when they detailed how owner Robert Kraft became upset upon finding out Brown had sent harassing text messages to one of his accusers.
“Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick jointly determined Friday that wide receiver Antonio Brown had overstayed his welcome.
Kraft, who was on a business trip, became enraged Friday when he heard the details of Brown’s most recently reported incident of text messaging harassment of a former female acquaintance. Kraft and Belichick spoke and decided together to officially release Brown just 11 days after the Patriots signed the controversial star receiver, according to sources.”
What Brown was dealing with before happened while he wasn’t a current member of the Patriots, so the team was willing to deal with it. Brown screwed up when he continued his bad behavior as a current employer to a franchise that had to deal with the fallout of Aaron Hernandez and what he was doing off the field.
Several teams have major concerns about his off-the-field antics so he may find himself on the outside looking in for the remainder of the 2019 season. From $30 million guaranteed to just over $150K made in 13 days because of his behavior.
That is one hell of an expensive lesson.
