Rob Gronkowski has teased a return to football in the wake of a second retirement that came after helping Tom Brady win another Super Bowl in Tampa Bay.
The former superstar tight end left the NFL as one of the best pass-catchers to ever grace the league and has nothing left to prove. Still, he has admitted that he could return to the game, though not at the NFL level.
While he’s won four Super Bowls, as well as multiple personal accolades, he does not have an Olympic gold medal. As a matter of fact, no other NFL player past or present does as football has never been an Olympic sport.
That could be about to change, however, with a proposal to have flag football become part of the Olympics submitted recently.
The organizers of the 2028 games, set for Los Angeles, have propositioned the International Olympic Committee to include flag football, as well as baseball, cricket, lacrosse, and squash.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has already said he would be willing to represent Team USA should the discipline be allowed. And, in a recent chat with TMZ, Gronk said he would be happy to participate in the games if there’s flag football.

“Hopefully there’s no tryouts and they just accept me,” he was quoted as saying. “But I’m in. I’m going for that if there is flag football in the Olympics in 2028. USA going all the way!”
Gronkowski also said that he would jump at the opportunity to play in an NFL flag football league right now.
“I can tell you this.” he added, “If there was a flag football league – an NFL flag football league – I would be playing in that currently as we speak.”
The erstwhile TE will be 39 by the time the 2028 Olympics get here, but that also leaves him with plenty of time to get ready. It would be hard to imagine the U.S. turning Gronk down at any age if we’re being honest.
