Mac Jones, who was benched in the Patriots’ loss to the Indianapolis Colts Sunday in Germany, is not having a good 2023 season.
What we do not know is whether the Patriots will make a quarterback change after their Week 11 bye. Jones was benched late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany after throwing an awful red-zone interception.
Backup Bailey Zappe replaced him for the final drive and threw an even worse interception to end the game.
Head coach Bill Belichick has stated many times since the team had yet to determine which QB would start next Sunday against the New York Giants.
Rob Gronkowski has a suggestion.
The retired NFL tight end said that Jones should simply ask for his release if the team is not going to show him any level of respect or loyalty anymore.
He then stated he should head to Cleveland now that Deshaun Watson is out for the year.

“I think Mac Jones should ultimately just go and ask for his release,” Gronkowski said. “Ask for his release and then he should go sign with the Cleveland Browns and start a new career right there.”
If the Patriots did permanently bench Jones, their options to replace him would be Zappe or veteran third-stringer Will Grier, who hadn’t appeared in a regular-season game since 2019, They could also go with undrafted rookie Malik Cunningham, who splits his time between QB and wide receiver on the practice squad.
This year, Jones is completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,031 yards with 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while too often being pulled from games over the course of this dismal 2-8 season.
