If Bill Belichick ends up leaving the New England Patriots, one of his former superstar players believes that owner Robert Kraft will go big-game hunting.
A final decision hasn’t been made, but many expect Kraft and Belichick to part ways following a dismal 4-13 season. If Belichick leaves Foxborough, Gronkowski believes that Kraft will look to reunite with a former Patriots star and NFL Coach of the Year.
Speaking on FOX ahead of the Week 18 games (h/t Nick Geddes of On3.com), Gronkowski opined that owner Robert Kraft will try and bring in Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel to replace Belichick:
“There’s only a lot of smoke because of the New England Patriots’ situation (Vrabel potentially leaving the Titans. And there will be fire if Coach Belichick is gone. Mr. Kraft will get on the phone with the Tennessee Titans organization and figure out a way to get Mike Vrabel to be the head coach of the New England Patriots.”
Vrabel played for the Patriots from 2001 to 2007, winning three Super Bowl championships with the franchise. After recording winning seasons in each of his first four years as head coach of the Titans, Vrabel and company suffered back-to-back losing seasons.
With the regular season almost in the books, let the NFL coaching carousel begin.
