It looks like Rob Gronkowski won’t be taking his talents back to the WWE when he retires from the NFL again, and for real the next time around.
Gronkowski, who sat out the 2019 season after announcing his retirement from football, signed with WWE in March and served as the host of WrestleMania 36 on April 4 and 5. Gronkowski won WWE’s 24/7 title and held that tile for weeks after he returned back to the NFL.
Since then, details have since emerged about his time in the WWE and they don’t exactly paint him in the best light. There was an earlier report where Gronkowski was so “terrified” to perform a stunt by diving off a platform onto a group of wrestlers below that Vince McMahon had to show him how to do it to prove to him that it was safe.
The scene reportedly drew a “did that just happen?” reaction from those who witnessed it.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported Tuesday (H/T to WrestlingNews.co) that “even those with a reputation of being easy, helpful, and good to work with, all had negative things to say about working with Gronk after his WrestleMania fiasco.”
“Per the report, there was heat on Gronkowski after his hesitation to do his scheduled spot that put the WrestleMania filming two hours behind schedule. It was mentioned that one top name called Gronk “A F**kin’ clown who we are so much better off without.”
Gronk is certainly athletic and charismatic, but his goofiness seems to be more accepted when it’s not scripted. He appeared to be a huge fish out of water while on screen with WWE.
