Rob Gronkowski seems to be perfectly content with staying retired from football, but the four-time Super Bowl champion admits that there’s one head coach who could potentially convince him to play again.
During an appearance with Kay Adams on FanDuel’s “Up & Adams” program, the five-time Pro Bowl tight end revealed that New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll wants him on the roster.
Adams then asked Gronk which NFL coach has the best chance of convincing him to un-retire.
The future Hall of Fame inductee then mentioned, “Brian Daboll.” Gronkowski did emphasize that the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year wouldn’t be able to talk him into playing again, but that Daboll is the coach with “the best chance” of getting him to un-retire.
Daboll was the Patriots’ tight ends coach from 2013 to 2016. New England won two Super Bowl championships in that span (in the 2014 and 2016 seasons), before Daboll went on to join Nick Saban’s coaching staff at Alabama for the 2017 season.
Daboll was then hired to serve as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator in 2018. There, Daboll and Sean McDermott helped turn Josh Allen into one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

It was Daboll’s success with Allen that made him a hot head coach candidate around the league. The Giants wound up hiring Daboll last year, and he helped Daniel Jones (another former first-round pick) turn in a career year following three lackluster seasons to begin his career.
Here’s how NFL fans reacted to Gronk’s comeback talk:
