Like former teammate and close friend Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski truly meant it when he made his second retirement announcement.
Gronkowski retired for a second time after the 2021 season and decided not to return to Tampa Bay for one more run with Brady. The latter made his second retirement announcement in February two weeks after the Bucs were eliminated by the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round.
During his appearance on “Pardon My Take”, Gronkowski revealed that the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants both reached out to him to see if he was interested in unretiring and playing for them. The future Hall of Fame inductee, however, turned both offers down.
“I just wasn’t interested,” Gronkowski said, via Austin Boyd of Heavy.com. “I mean they’re great teams. It would have been a great situation, but I just wasn’t ready to go.”
Gronkowski spent seven seasons with then-Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels in New England. The latter was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2021, working with Gronkowski until the latter’s initial retirement in 2018.
McDaniels was fired by the Raiders after a Week 8 loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Giants, of course, are coached by Brian Daboll. The 48-year-old was the Patriots’ tight ends coach from 2013 to 2016, winning a pair of Super Bowl championships with Gronk before he left for the Alabama OC role in 2017.
Now 34 years of age, Gronk walked away with four Super Bowl championships, 621 receptions, 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns. He was also an unstoppable force in the postseason, racking up 15 touchdowns in 22 postseason games.
