Matthew Stafford is one of the most hotly-debated quarterbacks in the NFL right now. And with good reason.
After failing to win a single playoff contest in 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, the first-overall pick from 2009 led his team to a Super Bowl championship in his first seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. He had an impressive postseason run, throwing for 1,188 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions in four games. However, he also led the NFL in interceptions during the regular season, throwing 17 of them.
And on Thursday, during the 2022 season opener against the Buffalo Bills, Stafford put himself in good position to defend his interceptions crown by throwing three of them on the evening.
Many were quick to bash Stafford for his week 1 performance, with some even calling him out for rarely targeting his black wide receivers.
One person who clearly isn’t impressed with Stafford is Richard Sherman.
While breaking down one of Stafford’s three picks on the evening with Brian Baldinger and Dan Orlovsky, the 34-year-old free agent cornerback threw some shade at the Rams QB by saying, “Stafford being Stafford.”

Orlovsky, who spent three seasons with Stafford in Detroit from 2014 to 2016, was quick to defend his former teammate. And from there, the back-and-forth battle began:
Sherman obviously wasn’t going to let it end there. He continued his onslaught, taking more shots at Stafford as his team continued to fall further and further behind.
Who wins this debate? That’s tough to say. There’s no doubt that Stafford has had his fair share of brutal performances. Which quarterback hasn’t?
But he also proved to everyone last year that he’s capable of leading his team to a Super Bowl title. Not a lot of quarterbacks can say that, and that’s something that can never be taken away from him…
No matter what Richard Sherman wants to tell you.
