Since the start of 2020, there has only been one minority head coach hired in the NFL, putting the total number league wide at 4, with just 3 African-American head coaches.
The problem has become so big that African-American assistant coaches are considering taking their talents from the NFL to the college ranks because of its lack of advancement opportunities.
The criticism really took a big focus when the New York Giants shocked everybody with the hiring of Joe Judge over the likes of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who has far more coaching experience and was clearly a more qualified candidate.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman noticed this stuff as well, which is why he called out the NFL, owners, and the Rooney rule.
