With each passing week, it looks more and more like Zach Wilson is not that guy who’s destined to take the New York Jets back to the top of the NFL.
His latest showing may very well be as low as it gets for the sophomore quarterback, as he completed just nine of his 22 pass attempts for 77 yards and three measly points. Heck, the Jets had more punts (10) than pass completions (9). And they had a whopping SIX three-and-outs.
After the game, which the Patriots won 10-3 on a last second punt return touchdown, reporters asked Zach Wilson if he felt as though he had let his defense down. The obvious answer here would be yes, but the 2021 second-overall-pick didn’t seem interested in taking any sort of accountability, as he gave an emphatic, “no.”
One person who was not impressed with that answer was former NFL Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman, who took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the Jets QB:
“Wow. 9 completions the entire game and 10 punts. You have let Defense down.”
As a defender, you can possibly be happy to hear that sort of answer from your quarterback following a performance like Wilson’s today. And perhaps no one knows that better than the outspoken Sherman.

If this is how the former Super Bowl champ is reacting to Wilson’s comments, one can only imagine how Zach’s teammates are feeling about all of this. This is the second time in four weeks that the Jets have squandered a prime opportunity to beat the Patriots, all because of the poor play from their quarterback.
At this point, you can’t help but wonder whether the Jets will be looking for their next franchise quarterback at the 2023 draft.
