A prominent NFL analyst thinks the Dallas Cowboys should add a two-time rushing champion and former Offensive Player of the Year to their already potent offense.
On the latest edition of his show (h//t Mike Fisher of Cowboys Country from Sports Illustrated’s FanNation), Rich Eisen called for the Cowboys to trade for Tennessee Titans star running back Derrick Henry.
“Dallas (should) get that next guy. And who’s that in the current trade market? Could it be … I’ll throw another one out there, Derrick Henry, where you just say, ‘Screw it! Screw it! Get that guy…
I mean, if Jerry Jones is saying, ‘I’m 80 and I need to win one more and I’m going to do it,’ just screw it. Flip what you need to the Titans and put the star and assign to Henry’s helmet … And now you want to see Dallas come to San Francisco, Philadelphia, or Detroit? Uh-huh, OK. Now you’re changing your opinion”
The 2023 trade deadline is just eight days away now. With the Titans sitting at 2-4, and with Henry in the final year of his contract, it makes plenty of sense for GM Ran Carthon to trade his star offensive playmaker.
Though Dallas running back Tony Pollard is having a strong year (370 rushing yards and two touchdowns), the Cowboys offense was that much better when they had two workhorse RBs in Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott last year.
Elliott has been past his prime for a while now, but he still had 876 rushing yards and 12 rushing scores in 15 games for Dallas last year. It was actually Pollard (1,007 rushing yards) who led the team in rushing, even though he saw fewer carries than Elliott.

Adding an explosive Henry to the group would make Dallas’ offense that much more dangerous. Dak Prescott and the passing game has struggled with consistency this year, and the quarterback’s well-documented postseason struggles have held this team back in January.
There’s no doubting that he would single-handedly bolster their Super Bowl 58 hopes. Will Jerry Jones and company listen to what Eisen has to say? We’ll find out within eight days.
