Robert Griffin III has fessed up to getting into trouble with his employer, ESPN, earlier this year over an inappropriate comment he made during the college football season.
RGIII is no stranger to tempting fate on live television and has gotten himself into hot water with fans a few times. Speaking to Kay Adams on the latter’s ‘Up & Adams’ podcast on Friday, he disclosed having gotten reprimanded by The Worldwide Leader in Sports because of a bad joke he dished out on the air.
The former NFL quarterback revealed he was called by ESPN after saying “let’s see how much wood these beavers can take” while he covered a game between Oregon State and Stanford.
“Early in the game, I’m like, ‘Hey, let’s see how much wood these beavers can take.’ It wasn’t immediate, but I had like six other borderline things that I said in that game,” he noted. “It’s not bits. The majority of things I say are right off the dome. There are a couple you can point out. I got a call after the game because it was egregious.”
While the network checked him, Griffin said he was never in danger of losing his job and was simply asked to be a bit more careful with his jokes.
Let’s see whether he tones it down next season.
