New York Jets fans have not been this excited about their team in over a decade.
Monday’s blockbuster trade that is sending Aaron Rodgers to the Jets has understandably galvanized a long-suffering fanbase.
That was evident on ESPN’s Get Up when former NFL coach and current analyst Rex Ryan showed up to work in a Jets letterman jacket while sporting some impressive team jewelry.
“This happens to be Super Bowl III—my dad’s Super Bowl ring right here,” he said. “Why am I wearing it? Because the Jets are going! And to me, watch out everybody, here come the Jets! Here come the Jets!”
Ryan’s father, the legendary Buddy Ryan, was New York’s defensive line coach when they won the Super Bowl in 1969, which was the last time the franchise won the title.
“Watch out everybody, here come the Jets! We haven’t had this type of quarterback since Joe Namath, maybe ever. This is it. This is the missing piece for the New York Jets right here. And guess what all you fans of the AFC East… it ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun. The entire national football league we just put you on notice and guess what? We’re gonna kick your butt.”

The last time the Jets were an actual contender, Rex was the head coach. He coached New York to back-to-back AFC championship games while on the sidelines for the Jets from 2009 to ’14, but he was never able to reach the Super Bowl.
During his time with the Jets, Ryan quickly became a fan favorite, thanks in part to his willingness to speak his mind and his penchant for making bold predictions. He famously declared that the Jets would win the Super Bowl in his first season as head coach, but of course, that never happened.
Ryan’s success with the Jets was largely due to his defense, which was consistently among the best in the league during his tenure. He was known for his aggressive blitzing schemes and his ability to get the most out of his players, particularly in the secondary.
For the first time since then, there’s hope among Jets fans that the team can finally go all the way with another good defense and now with an actual QB.
