Rex Ryan has been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
During an appearance on ESPN’s “Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin” show, the former head coach emphatically claimed that the Patriots’ dominant run atop the division officially came to a close when the team lost to the Bills on Sunday.
“It’s over. It’s flat out over,” Ryan said. “They’re four games behind Buffalo — really four and a half games behind them because they lost the head-to-head battle –and they’re not gonna win the wildcard. They’re not going to a wild card. So yeah, look the playoff run is over and pass the torch to the Buffalo Bills and it’ll be interesting.”
Ryan says the Patriots’ weaknesses are being exposed now that Tom Brady is gone.
“This is what I thought was coming and I told everybody that they had no weapons for the last three years,” Ryan said. “But they had the greatest player in a history of our game in Tom Brady. You see how great he is? He took this team to the playoffs and actually won a Super Bowl two years ago. So to me, it just shows also that the greatest player in the game has a hell of a lot bigger impact than the greatest coach in the game.”

The last time the Patriots missed the playoffs was in 2008, when Brady suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. Even still, the team finished 11-5 that season behind Matt Cassel.
The last time the franchise had a losing record was in 2000, when they went 6-10 in Belichick’s first season with the team.
