Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is still dominating the headlines for this year’s NFL HC hiring cycle, having already interviewed with two teams.
Harbaugh has had interviews with the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers, though it’s looking more and more like the Falcons will end up hiring ex-New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, however, Harbaugh may simply be using NFL talks to get himself more money from the Wolverines:
“Jim Harbaugh didn’t hire Don Yee to push paper. Harbaugh hired him to push the envelope, when it comes to how much money will be inside it.
There’s nothing wrong with trying to get as much money as possible to be a head coach. It’s a demanding, stressful job. To do it right, you’re never off the clock. You give your life to it. It becomes who you are.
So, yes, Harbaugh should try to get as much as he can. Some within league circles think that’s exactly what he’s doing — and that it could end up sending him back to Michigan.
Barring a change, it’s looking like Chargers, Falcons, or Wolverines. If it comes down to the money, Harbaugh could end up staying in the place where it’s easier to pay the head coach a lot of money because there’s no line item in the budget for player salaries.”
The 60-year-old Harbaugh took over as the head coach of Michigan following his departure from the San Francisco 49ers. Through his first nine years there, Harbaugh has compiled an 89-25-0 record, leading the school to its first national championship since 1997.
Harbaugh led the 49ers to three straight NFC Championship Game appearances to begin his NFL coaching career, as well as a trip to Super Bowl 47. As such, it’s no wonder that he’s a hot candidate in this year’s coaching cycle.

But only time will tell if he decides to stay at Michigan, or if Harbaugh decides to give it another go at the NFL.
