Two of the NFL’s most accomplished and respected head coaches, both future Hall of Famers, could reportedly be traded in the offseason.
As previously noted, Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston reported earlier this week that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft could look to start up a “bidding war” for head coach Bill Belichick. Many expect the Pats to move on from the 71-year-old after another disappointing year in Foxborough.
Belichick isn’t the only marquee head coach who could be traded this offseason. On Sunday, FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been mentioned in trade speculation as well (h/t Sean T. McGuire of NESN):
“A lot of teams are looking at Mike Tomlin hoping that, ‘Hey, he could possibly be available after this season if the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to lose.'”
Here’s the deal there: I don’t know what the future is with Mike Tomlin. Over the last couple of weeks, that is the name that’s been brought up by every team out there with openings, teams that think they’re going to have openings, seeing if maybe Mike Tomlin and the Steelers decide to part ways, or if there’s a possible trade…All I’m telling you is Mike Tomlin’s name has been brought up an awful lot lately.”
Tomlin has never had a losing season as the Steelers head coach, but this is a proud organization that expects to compete annually for Super Bowls. The Steelers haven’t won a postseason game since the 2016 season, and they’re in danger of missing out on the playoffs for the fourth time in six years.
