Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf lost his cool against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, earning himself a quick sending-off.
As it turns out, this wasn’t random. According to a report, Kyle Shanahan was counting on the star wideout having a meltdown and actually had a bounty out on him. Metcalf is known for his on-field outbursts and has difficulty keeping his emotions in check. Sunday’s ejection was the latest of a good few.
Things took a downward spiral after he smashed his helmet and broke something on the sideline following a frustrating interception from Drew Lock.
The subsequent drive saw him sent off as he suplexed Niners linebacker Fred Warner to kick off a brawl between the teams. He received his marching orders shortly after.
Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that this was sort of by design as Shanahan told his players he expected the wideout to blow a fuse during the game. The coach is said to have shown the team a video of various incidents and told the players “we will get ’14’ to lose his mind.”
“Christmas present for whoever gets him!” he is reported as having said to the team.
