Gisele Bündchen opened up a ton about her split from Tom Brady, likening their divorce to “a death and rebirth.”
Last year, there were numerous rumors that the discourse between them happened after he retired and then decided to unretire to play one more season.
On Thursday, Vanity Fair’s Michelle Ruiz discussed her profile of Gisele Bündchen on The Dan Le Batard Show. She made it clear that the Supermodel pushed back on the “accepted narrative” that she and Tom Brady divorced because she didn’t want him to play football last year.
“She was like, that is an oversimplification of why we got divorced,” Ruiz relayed. “I’m not divorcing him after 16 seasons for one more season.”
Bündchen slammed that “very hurtful” narrative surrounding their divorce as she told Vanity Fair the characterization she gave him an ultimatum is “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.” After months of speculation, Brady and Bündchen confirmed in October they were going their separate ways after 13 years of marriage.
Bündchen couldn’t believe tabloids “made me somebody who is against football.”

“Are you kidding me? I learned about it! I used to joke that I was going to be able to be the ref because I’ve watched so many games. And I loved it,” she told the magazine. Bündchen emphasized that marriages aren’t broken overnight. “That takes years to happen.”
Ruiz did add that Brady coming out of retirement may have led to some discourse, it wasn’t “the only thing. She added that the couple “gradually grew apart” and developed different goals.
“What I can kind of infer from that, what she wants, and the type of person she is, is to live in Costa Rica off the grid, riding ATVs and riding horseback every other day, and kind of living off the land.”
She said that “sometimes you grow apart.”
“We wanted a family, we wanted things together,” Bündchen said. “As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person.”
Bündchen declared she’s “always cheered for” Brady and she will “continue forever.”
