Can things get worse for Zach Wilson in 2022? They most certainly can and possibly did after he lost his starting job that may keep him on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
People have had a lot to say about the Jets quarterback especially since his disappointing performance on Week 11 headlined New York’s 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots. That game saw him complete just 9 of 22 passes for 77 yards and was sacked four times. His lack of moving the offense caused the team to punt the ball ten times, the last of which was returned for a game-winning touchdown.
After the game, he made things worse by refusing to take responsibility for his poor performance in the post-game press conference.
According to NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, Wilson’s time in New York City is essentially over after he gave a fiery statement on WFAN’s In The Huddle that the second-year signal caller “doesn’t have a future there.”
“He doesn’t have a future there.. He lost his job to Mike effing White, you think he wants to be there? No. No! His agents say ‘You took this kid second overall and that’s the look you gave him? That’s how little you believe in him?’ No. It’s over. I don’t know what they get for him, but it’s over,” he said. “He’s not a part of their immediate future and their immediate future’s everything, and in the offseason, both sides are going to have a bunch of reasons why they should move on,” La Canfora said.
Things have gotten so bad that he also added if Mike White would to suffer an injury, the team would rather turn to Joe Flacco.
“If this thing goes off the rails a couple weeks from now because of injury or whatever – the buggy turns into a pumpkin or whatever – I think they go to Joe Flacco. I don’t think they go back to Wilson. I don’t think that’s tenable.”

This past Sunday, head coach Robert Saleh elected to start Mike White in Wilson’s place, and the 27-year-old led the Jets to a 31-10 win over the Chicago Bears going 22 of 28 for 315 yards. Mike White’s one game played led to three touchdowns while Zach Wilson playing in seven games has him sitting at four touchdowns.
The Jets will head to Minneapolis next week ready to face the Minnesota Vikings. The team may be in third place in the AFC east, but this division race is far from over and now the surging Jets have newfound confidence in a QB they know can sling that football.
