The NFL world suffered a tragic loss on Monday when it was reported that former Chargers and Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson had been found dead in a hotel room in Tampa.
As the days go by, more details continue to roll in regarding the 38-year-old’s untimely death, including this latest bit of news from Sheriff Chad Chronister of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. During an appearance on MJ Morning Show, the Sherrif told listeners, “the autopsy report that will be released today showed, unfortunately, he suffered from chronic alcoholism.”
He also added that the department is still waiting on toxicology reports before issuing an official cause of death, but stated that Jackson’s alcohol abuse led to “long-standing health conditions that contributed to his passing.”
Based on discussions with the family, Sheriff Chronister also believes that CTE may have played a part in this tragic loss. Via TMZ:
“Well this is true speculation but what the family is telling me is that he suffered from CTE. They believe he had a lot of concussion problems and when you suffer from that, you’re not yourself.”
This latest info just adds more sadness to this devastating loss. Jackson was loved by many in the Tampa Bay community, including his family, friends, former teammates, and many others.
