Urban Meyer may be finally getting a new gig just months after he was ousted from his NFL job.
The former Jacksonville Jags head coach could be making his return to sports television as he is reportedly in negotiations with Fox Sports, per The Athletic. Richard Deitsch reports that Meyer is “deep in negotiations” to return to television.
“The thinking at Fox Sports, via network sources, is that they don’t view Meyer’s failure at the NFL level as an impediment to his returning to Fox. They know that the hire will be pilloried on social media. Meyer also had a 10-month broadcasting tenure at ESPN in 2011 which ended when he took the Ohio State job.
A deal has not been completed with Fox at the moment but is heading that way. Fox Sports declined comment on Saturday,” Deitsch writes.
Meyer coached at Ohio State from 2012–18 before becoming a college football analyst for Fox Sports. In 2021, he left broadcasting to become coach of the Jaguars.
Things went terribly almost immediately.
