Disgruntled New Orleans Saints superstar running back Alvin Kamara reportedly left the team’s mandatory minicamp session early on Thursday.
Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reported on Thursday afternoon that Alvin Kamara was absent from the team’s last minicamp practice session. Kamara, who turns 29 next month, is signed through 2025.
In an update, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport heard from Kamara’s agent Brad Cicala that the five-time Pro Bowler’s exit at minicamp is indeed “contract-related.”
According to OvertheCap.com, Kamara’s 2025 cap hit is $29.077 million, but none of the money is guaranteed. He has a $10.2 million base salary for 2024 and an $18.55 million cap hit.
In Sept. 2020, Alvin Kamara and the Saints agreed to a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $75 million. The 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year has posted over 1,100 yards of offense over each of his first seven seasons.

Despite missing four games in 2023, Kamara still had 1,160 total yards of offense and six touchdowns. The Saints finished 9-8 but lost out on the NFC South division tiebreaker via tiebreaker to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For his career, Kamara has 5,829 rushing yards, 54 rushing touchdowns, 505 receptions, 4,219 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. He helped the Saints reach the postseason four years in a row from 2017 to 2020, including a trip to the 2018 NFC Championship Game.
Saints Have Tough Call To Make On Alvin Kamara
Kamara has been the Saints’ offensive MVP since 2020, when injuries began to pile up on all-world wide receiver Michael Thomas. So on one hand, the front office may feel inclined to give Kamara a new deal.
But he’s also entering his age-29 season and plays a devaluing position. The likes of Todd Gurley, Devonta Freeman, Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson and Le’Veon Bell are tough reminders about how much a lucrative RB contract can quickly backfire.
New Orleans is also in a tough cap situation, so fitting a Kamara extension (or raise) is easier said than done.
