There’s no shortage of teams who are interested in pursuing Deshaun Watson. It seems like ever hour there’s a new frontrunner for his services, but it appears as though the long list of possible suitors has been trimmed down by two.
As per Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are no longer interested in pursuing Watson.
The Steelers were viewed as a strong candidate for Watson’s services, as Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement opened up a hole under center for the stories franchise. There’s also believe to be a connection between Mike Tomlin and Watson that has further fueled speculation between the Texans quarterback and the Steelers.
As for the 49ers, they seem to have little reason to pursue Watson, with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance on their roster. So to hear that they’re backing out is not surprising. In fact, it’s rather shocking to hear that they were a possible trade candidate for Deshaun in the first place.
In fact, according to BetMGM’s latest odds, they had the 15th best odds to acquire Watson, at +6600.
