The first round of the NFL Draft is over and Deebo Samuel is still part of the 49ers. Samuel wasn’t traded during the first round of the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night, but it apparently wasn’t for lack of trying by multiple teams.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted the New York Jets and Detroit Lions made trade offers for Samuel that were turned down by the San Francisco 49ers.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas took care of quarterback Zach Wilson on Thursday by using the No. 10 pick overall in the 2022 NFL Draft on Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson. The Jets were one of six teams to select a wide receiver in the first round.
After scooping up Aiden Hutchinson No. 2 overall, the Detroit Lions made a bold move up for an offensive weapon. The Lions traded pick Nos. 32, 34 and 66 to the Minnesota Vikings for pick Nos. 12 and 46.
The Jets have previous ties to Samuel via head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. Both worked with Samuel while they were assistants in San Francisco.

With the No. 12 overall pick, the Lions drafted Alabama wide receiver, Jameson Williams, in the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
It appears both of those teams might be out on the Samuel trade.
In 2021, Samuel appeared in 16 games for the 49ers and caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards receiving to go along with 365 yards rushing and 14 total touchdowns, six through the air, and eight on the ground.
