No player headed into the 2020 NFL Draft has been covered and/or criticized as much as Tua Tagaovailoa has over the course of the past few weeks.
Even though he’s gotten positive feedback on his surgically repaired hip, there is still belief he might fall in the draft because of his injury history. If the former Alabama star QB tumbles past the 6th pick somehow, he is expected to fall even further that could see him not being selected until almost the 20th pick.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Dolphins may even believe they can land Tagovailoa with their second pick of the first round, which falls at No. 18.
That seems rather unlikely and very risky for the Dolphins to have hope that Tue would still be on the board that late. That same situation sort of played in 2019 with the Giants when they had two picks in the first round last year, and they decided to take Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall.
General manager Dave Gettleman faced a lot of criticism for selecting him that high, but would later explain that it didn’t make any sense waiting to get a guy if they viewed him as a franchise quarterback.
Even still, Birkett has Miami taking Tagovailoa at No. 5 in his mock draft.

If Tagovailoa does fall past No. 6, the Patriots could be in play to move up and grab him.
