Former Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to add to his endorsements list ahead of Thursday night’s NFL Draft, but this latest one has social media doing a double take.
The apparent No. 1 overall draft pick has signed a deal with the crypto company Blockfolio. Lawrence’s first payment was reportedly made in crypto tokens.
Future payments, however, are subject to whatever combination of dollars and cryptocurrency the future Jacksonville Jaguars QB desires, according to DealBook.
“We’re really trying to get our name out a lot,” Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, a crypto exchange that acquired Blockfolio, told Dealbook. “Trevor was excited about crypto. That’s what drew us to him.”
The deal with Lawrence is the first endorsement deal in which a significant amount of the signing bonus will be paid in cryptocurrency.
