You didn’t have to be a member of the New England Patriots to see that playing for a head coach like Bill Belichick was absolutely draining, especially when the guy smiled like 4 times a year.
It’s starting to become more and more clear why Tom Brady decided to leave the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was simply done with Bill Belichick.
That appears to be the indication in a new report by ESPN’s Ian O’Connor, who spoke to a friend of Brady who went on record to state that Brady was “Belichick’d out” after spending 20 seasons under the coach’s demanding rule.
“Measured against Belichick, Arians is a stand-up comic with a funny-looking cap and a strange way of managing defeat. “Win or lose, we booze,” is Arians’ oft-stated philosophy. Though people close to Brady believe that he was looking for a little more humanity in his coaching (“Tom was Belichick’d out after 20 years,” said one friend), and that Arians’ let’s-grab-a-couple-beers-and-sneak-in-nine-holes approach will be a welcome change, some league officials who know all parties wonder how Brady will adjust to a head coach who doesn’t quite match Belichick’s maniacal hours or attention to detail.”
Brady might’ve been the face of the franchise, but the culture was defined by the “Do Your Job” mantra as well as Belichick’s “next man up” mentality.
The 42-year-old seemingly wants to enjoy playing football for the first time in a long time and he seems to think Tampa is that place to do it.
