An interesting AFC Team could emerge as a contender for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, according to a former NFL MVP winner.
Per the ML Football X/Twitter account, CBS analyst and former star NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Las Vegas Raiders wound up acquiring the 2021 first-round pick.
The Bears are widely expected to trade Fields and use the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft on USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Chicago obtained the pick via the Carolina Panthers, who gave up a 2024 first-rounder as part of the move for Bryce Young last year.
Obviously, neither team thought that the Panthers would end up finishing with football’s worst record (2-15). Assuming the Bears draft Williams, Fields will most certainly be traded well ahead of the draft for additional draft capital.
The 24-year-old Fields had the best season of his young career in 2023, completing 61.4 percent of pass attempts for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns against nine interceptions. Fields also rushed for 657 yards and four touchdowns despite missing four games.
But Williams is regarded as one of the best quarterback prospects in recent memory, and the Bears would have the luxury of owning him on a bargain rookie contract for the next four to five years. Fields, on the other hand, has no more than two years remaining on his rookie deal (if his fifth-year option is picked up).
