Minnesota Vikings standout wide receiver Justin Jefferson could’ve been a Super Bowl contender.
Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings will face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but the biggest news, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, was there was a chance that Jefferson could have been standing on the opposite sideline at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Schefter reported that the 49ers were among three teams that inquired about a trade for the Vikings superstar before the NFL Draft as Jefferson sought a lucrative contract extension.
At the time, it appeared the 49ers would need a new No. 1 wideout since Brandon Aiyuk was not only pushing for a new contract but seemingly making plans to be traded to another team.
Schefter reported that the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts “had some level of interest” in Justin Jefferson, but the Vikings shut the discussions down.
Jefferson finished the 2023 season with 68 catches for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns, his fourth straight 1,000-yard campaign.

Minnesota put the matter to bed when it signed him to a new deal that made the 25-year-old the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings Sign WR Justin Jefferson To Four-Year Deal
The Minnesota Vikings ended all speculation when they signed Justin Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million contract extension, including $110 million guaranteed.
Jefferson admitted that his connection to his head coach was a big part of his decision to commit his football future to the Minnesota Vikings.
Jefferson joined Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show and explained why he decided to sign a massive extension with the Vikings this offseason.
“That connection is just not found anywhere. Especially the connection I have with KO (Kevin O’Connell), having a head coach that’s that player-oriented, that I have a very close connection with, it’s not something that you can find at the next team,” Jefferson said.
“The whole organization, the facility, even our stadium, our fan base, everything is just high quality, top tier in this league.”
