Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is reportedly emerging as a favorite to take over as the next head coach of a struggling NFC team.
Kliff Kingsbury was fired two years ago after an up-and-down four-year tenure with the Arizona Cardinals. But he’s suddenly a hot candidate again thanks to his success with Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kingsbury is a top candidate to take over as the Bears’ new head coach. Matt Eberflus was fired on Friday, with Thomas Brown taking over as the interim HC:
“Kliff Kingsbury, of course, worked with Caleb Williams in USC. Now thriving as OC with the Commanders. Certainly one to keep an eye on.”
From @NFLGameDay: The #Bears now have a coveted opening, and expect a wide-ranging search. They'll consider all the top candidates, including #Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury — whose ties to Caleb Williams are obvious. Plus, #Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown is expected back soon. pic.twitter.com/tYqxwUkjvf

Kliff Kingsbury was a senior offensive analyst for the Trojans last season, Williams’ last in the college ranks before going first-overall to the Chicago Bears. Kingsbury’s work with Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield and now Daniels garnered him a reputation as an offensive guru.

The Commanders are now sitting comfortably in a playoff spot at 8-5. With four games to go, they’re on their way to securing their first winning season since 2016.
Kliff Kingsbury Deserves A Second Shot As An NFL HC
It’s easy to criticize Kingsbury for his mostly underwhelming tenure in Arizona, especially considering their bad habits of late-season collapses under his watch. But Kingsbury didn’t exactly have the best rosters to work with, and he still played a vital role in Murray’s development.
Kingsbury also helped Arizona to its first playoff berth in six years in the 2021 season. He’s the only Cardinals coach to guide this team to the postseason since 2016, so make of that as you will.
