A surprise team and Super Bowl front-runner is reportedly worth monitoring in the Davante Adams trade sweepstakes.
Earlier this week, multiple NFL insiders reported that Davante Adams requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. The 31-year-old is in the third of a five-year, $140 million deal he signed in the 2022 offseason.
It has been widely speculated for a while that Adams has become frustrated with the Raiders and would welcome a trade. Head coach Antonio Pierce fueled the trade speculation when he was caught “liking” an Instagram post about Adams potentially playing his final game in Sin City:
The New York Jets are considered the front-runners for Davante Adams, given his relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two played together in Green Bay from 2014 to 2021, leading the Pack to four NFC Championship Game appearances.
On the latest episode of the “Scoop City” podcast, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will “monitor” the Adams situation and see if they can “hop in” on the sweepstakes. She noted that the Raiders would have to eat up some of the money in Adams’ deal to make a trade work with the cap-strapped Chiefs.

The Chiefs are without star wide receiver Rashee Rice (knee injury) indefinitely. He was placed on the injured reserve earlier this week, and the Chiefs still don’t know if he’ll return this season. Free agent signing Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown is also expected to miss the entire 2024 regular season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
So Kansas City could use a big-time playmaking receiver like Davante Adams. But a move is easier said than done with their cap situation, not to mention that Vegas may refuse to do business with a division rival.
The Raiders Need To Trade Davante Adams
Las Vegas isn’t close to contending for a Super Bowl, so it doesn’t make sense to keep an ageing and expensive asset like Adams on their roster. Vegas would surely get at least one day-two pick for his services, so the only option is to deal him before the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
