The Seattle Seahawks’ decision to trade Russell Wilson may have seemed like they were waiving the white flag to start all over, but that does not appear to be the way they were going.
Per Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network, the Seahawks “are interested in” Deshaun Watson and “are expected to explore trade scenarios” for him. The Seahawks agreed to send Wilson and a fourth-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos for Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, Noah Fant, two first-round draft picks, two second-round draft picks and a fifth-round draft pick.
Any deal for Watson would send all those picks right to the Houston Texans, plus more.
Watson is set to give his first deposition Friday regarding the 22 civil lawsuits he’s facing after being accused of sexual assault and sexual misconduct, and there is “no trade imminent or developing” for the three-time Pro Bowler. Watson currently faces 10 criminal complaints from eight women regarding allegations of sexual misconduct as well as 22 civil cases.
He was close to being traded to the Dolphins at the trade deadline last season but talks fell apart because Miami was only willing to do a deal if Watson settled all cases against him.
In 2020, Watson appeared in all 16 games for the Texans and completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Because of his trade demand and legal cases, the Texans elected to have Watson as a healthy scratch for the entire 2021 season.
