A little over a week ago, the New Orleans Saints suffered a painful loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, where a missed pass interference call prevented them from advancing to the Super Bowl.
On Monday, the New Orleans area was dealt another big blow when Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis formally requested to be traded as his agent made it clear to the front office that he would not be signing an extension with the team.
Unlike the NFC Championship results — Davis wanting out of New Orleans is partially the Saints’ fault, according to The Athletic. Gayle Benson owns both the Pelicans and the New Orleans Saints, and this hasn’t led to a positive dynamic for the star player.
“A source with knowledge of Davis’ thinking said the idea that the Pelicans were less of a priority to ownership than the Saints has been a growing concern,” Amick writes.
On Tuesday, there was a report that Davis and his agent, Rich Paul, would be informing willing teams around the league that he would not be interested in re-signing with anybody other than the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” Paul told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
During Davis’ time there, the deepest run the team has ever had was to the second-round of the playoffs. Since then, the franchise has taken a step back as they currently sit at 22-28 during the 2018-2019 season.
