It’s scary to think how much worse the Richard Sherman incident could have ended after hearing all the details. From the drunk driving, to the threats of suicide and fighting the cops, to this latest news from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
While appearing on NFL Total Access, Rapoport provided details on Sherman’s case, including the fact that he’s been going through mental health issues from a few months now. It’s gotten so bad that several of his friends have flown in to visit him and try to help hi out through these tough times.
“My understanding is his close friends have been well aware of this and actually visited Sherman’s house on a couple different occasions this offseason to try to intervene, and help Richard Sherman deal with what he’s dealing with personally.”
Rapoport also reiterated the fact that Sherman DID NOT assault anyone during the incident, despite the fact that he was charged with burglary domestic violence. Sherman is facing four separate charges.
The free agent quarterback was arrested by Redmond police on Wednesday after trying to break into his in-law’s house. When cops arrived, he resisted arrest and had to be taken down by the K9 unit. Sherman sustained minor injuries, and he was the only one injured in the incident.

Sherman also reportedly was involved in a car accident prior to his arrest and was being investigated by the Washington State Police for hit-and-run and DUI charges.
It was a terrible sequence of events that luckily didn’t end with someone getting injured or killed. Hopefully Sherman can get the help he needs and recover from all of this.
