Tom Brady is coming back. And, apparently, one of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates found about the news before everyone else.
The news broke to the world on Sunday that the GOAT would be returning for his 23rd season in the NFL in 2022, at which point he’ll be 45-years-old. But before we all found out about the comeback, Brady was apparently calling a specific teammate to inform him of the news.
According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, prior to making his announcement, Brady called Bucs offensive lineman and pending free agent Ryan Jensen to let him know he’s be coming back for another season.
“I’m gonna give you an example of how Brady has already gotten to work on trying to keep this roster intact,” Laine said on SportsCenter. “Free agency kicks off today with the legal tampering period and before Brady even made his announcement to the world, I’m told he got on the phone and he called his center, Ryan Jensen. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent. He told Ryan, ‘I’m coming back,’ and because of that, Jensen was able to strike a new deal with the Bucs late last night for three years.”
Jensen was said to be contemplating a return to the Bucs with their quarterback situation up in the air, but with Brady now officially returning for another year, Jensen has decided to come back as well.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jensen and the Bucs have agreed to a 3-year deal with $39-million.
