We all knew that Derek Carr was done in Las Vegas after the team decided to bench him for the final two game of the regular season. Based on the latest reports, however, it seems as though the Raiders can’t get rid of their longtime starting quarterback soon enough.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders already began shopping Carr around the league earlier this week. This should come as no surprise, though, as they have until February 15th to move Carr, otherwise $40-million-plus from his contract becomes guaranteed money that Vegas would be on the hook for.
Rapoport goes on to suggest that some of the quarterback-needy teams could make a move for Carr. Among them, he mentions the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets.
Of course, the Commanders are already telling prospective offensive coordinators that 2022 fifth-round pick Sam Howell will be their starting quarterback next season. So Rapoport may want to cross them off his list.
