It seems more and more likely that the Browns won’t find a trading partner for Baker Mayfield, as many squads have filled their quarterback vacancies through trades and signings already this offseason.
The Panthers don’t want him and the Seattle Seahawks have not shown any willingness to give up what the Browns are asking for. However, there seems to be another team out there that may be interested in Baker, and he just so happens to have his only playoff victory against them.
During the latest episode of the “Orange and Brown Talk” podcast, Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot discussed where Mayfield could end up this offseason.
If the Browns were to release Mayfield, Cabot could see the former No. 1 pick staying in the AFC North as the Steelers would reportedly “pounce” on him if he gets released.
“The Steelers will pounce on Baker Mayfield if he becomes available,” Cabot said. “Like if they cut him and he’s just out there, they would take him in a minute. And I’m sure a lot of people would.”
“If you can get him for nothing and the Browns have to eat that money, then certainly somebody would go grab him in that scenario,” Cabot added. “But short of that, I do think it’s going to be a situation where they have to hope somebody desperately needs a starting quarterback.”

In Baker Mayfield’s playoff debut during the 2020 season, he went 21-of-34 passing (61.8%) for 263 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He helped the Browns get their first playoff win since 1995.
Mayfield was celebrated, but much of the fanfare he received that year died down in 2021, as he struggled on the field and the team went 8-9 and missed out on the playoffs.
