The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract. Wilson, who will be entering his 13th NFL season, spent the last two years with the Denver Broncos following a trade from the Seattle Seahawks.
It appeared that Russell Wilson would’ve been in a quarterback competition with Kenny Pickett but he decided he wanted out and got himself traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Just because Russell Wilson is the questioned starter heading into the season does not mean he will stay there.
In fact, an NFL executive told ESPN.com that Russell Wilson could be released by the Steelers if he plays badly during training camp.
Wilson spoke to the media last week and stated he wanted to play for up to seven more years. He will be 36 years old this year. If he does not play up to the standard that the team wants, he will be on another team hoping to stay in the league that long.

Given his current contract is for only a year, Pittsburgh management may want to see how this season unfolds.
Russell Wilson Had A Bounce Back 2023 Campaign Despite Being Benched
Statistically, Russell Wilson has had a big bounce-back year in 2023.
After completing 60.5% of his passes for 3,524 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions under Nathaniel Hackett during the tumultuous 2022 season, Wilson showed his critics he still had something in the tank when he completed 66.4% of his throws for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns against eight interceptions under new coach Sean Payton.
His numbers could’ve been much better if not for Sean Payton and the team benching him at the end of the year for purposes not related to his play on the field as we saw they planned to release him after the season.
