The 2021 NFL season is getting set to head into Week 3 with one of the biggest games being between the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots.
Before that game happens, Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com dropped a damning report that the Saints had made some calls on disgruntled All-Pro Stephon Gilmore and a potential blockbuster trade.
“I know they made calls on him,” Duncan said, via NESN.com. “They had some questions about his injury situation. I’m not too familiar with his health status, but I know there were some red flags with him physically, and that might have prevented any kind of deal getting done. They ended up making a deal for Bradley Roby instead. But they were making calls to teams all over the league. Any veteran corner that might have been available.”
The New England Patriots cornerback opened the 2021 NFL season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first six weeks of the season. The 30-year-old has been recovering from a torn quad suffered in Week 15 of last season. The injury required offseason surgery.
Last season, Gilmore appeared in only 11 games due to a partially torn quad.
The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year had an INT, three passes deflected, and 37 tackles in 2020.
