The New England Patriots are been rumored to be involved in numerous things this offseason, but now that we are just days away from the NFL Draft, something being worked on behind the scenes is starting to become reality.
Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Patriots and Carolina Panthers have done “some groundwork” on a deal involving Carolina’s No. 8 pick.
Breer didn’t go into any details as to what that deal “might look like,” and he didn’t mock a trade between the two teams, either.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported earlier this week that the Patriots have been making calls about moving up with the possibility that Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields could slide:
Breer has the Panthers selecting quarterback Justin Fields at No. 8, and the Patriots drafting Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons at No. 15 overall.
The Patriots re-signed Cam Newton for the 2021 season, but he nor anyone else on the roster are the long-term solution at quarterback.

Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are expected to be the top two picks, so that leaves QB’s like Mac Jones, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields to fall wherever.
