For the first time since Tom Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe, the New England Patriots appear to be in the market for a new quarterback. That seems to be the way things are going as Tom Brady is expected to test out his free agent options, and while he would love to return to Foxborough, the team might have a potential replacement in mind if he signs elsewhere.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Patriots are considered a “team to watch” for New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill.
Hill is ready to make that next step as he stated earlier this week when he stated he would look elsewhere if the Saints did not view him as a franchise QB.
“I definitely view myself as a franchise quarterback,” Hill said during Super Bowl week. “I think as you look at the other questions… is it New Orleans? Is it somewhere else? As you go into free agency, this is time that you find out how people view you and we haven’t gotten into free agency long enough to know how these guys view me and we’ll just handle it as it comes.”
“Do I want to leave? The fact of the matter is no,” he added. “But as you look at free agency, you have to find the right opportunity for you. You have to find the situation to take care of your family. I want to play quarterback in this league. If New Orleans don’t view me that why, well then I have to leave.”
As for the Patriots, the only quarterbacks under contract for them right now are Cody Kessler and Jarrett Stidham. Neither one of them will be the answer going forward, so naturally, the team would need another QB from elsewhere.
In three years in the league, Hill has thrown a grand total of 13 passes and completed six of them. He has 119 passing yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and a 46.6 QB rating.
