On Tuesday, it was reported that the Carolina Panthers were going to indeed cut QB Cam Newton from the roster. They tried another route, but just couldn’t find a willing trade partner.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the franchise tried unsuccessfully to trade Newton to the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers.
They found zero takers, making his release the only option on the table.
Releasing Newton frees up $19.1 of available cap space for the Panthers while creating $2 million in dead money.
